Crimetracker: Police: Suspect admits to killing Madisonville woman

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Vonore man faces murder charges after reportedly telling detectives he killed a 57 year-old Madisonville woman over the weekend, according to the Monroe Co. Sheriff's Office.

James Ray Parker has been charged with first-degree murder. He is being held in the Monroe Co. Jail and is awaiting bond, the Sheriff's Office added.

A tip led detectives to Parker, authorities said. After they brought him in, Parker reportedly admitted he drove to Kathy Bookout's home with a rifle and shot her.

Police say they've recovered the gun.

Authorities have not divulged a motive in the slaying. Parker and Bookout are related, but the Sheriff's Office would not elaborate on the relationship.
