KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A motorcycle rider was rushed to the the hospital following a possible hit-and-run late Monday night, according to the Knoxville Police Dept.
Officers found the motorcyclist laying in the westbound lanes of Middlebrook Pike, near Old Middlebrook Pike, shortly before 11:00 p.m.
Police identified the rider as David Parton of Knoxville. He was taken to UT Medical Center with what were described as life-threatening injuries.
Police said they are investigating the wreck as a possible hit and run, and witnesses said the motorcycle ran the red light at the intersection of Gallaher View Road and continued west on Middlebrook Pike. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle may have struck another vehicle and the vehicle did not stop.
Police said Parton was wearing a helmet, but was driving on a suspended license.
