KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Prosecutors say a group of Knox County sheriff's deputies have been cleared of any legal wrongdoing for a standoff that left a suspect dead and a deputy wounded.
District Attorney General Randy Nichols has sent a letter to Sheriff Jimmy "J.J." Jones clearing deputies involved in the June 20 standoff.
Authorities say 47 gunshots were fired by officers during the standoff at a mobile home. Jordan Richard Camp died inside the mobile home of gunshot wounds.
Officers said the 21-year-old Camp pointed a rifle at them after attempts to negotiate with him failed. Officers had been seeking Camp on charges including aggravated assault before he barricaded himself in the home.
Sgt. Mike Ledbetter was struck in the leg, possibly by a ricocheting round.
