KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Kroger is warning customers that an online promotion claiming Facebook users can get a free $250 gift card for taking a survey is a scam.
Now, Publix is warning customers of the same thing.
Both companies addressed the scam on their Facebook pages, telling customers a promotion billed as a "survey" to earn a $250 gift card was bogus.
Users who click the fake link are taken to a page that asks them to share the promotional message on their Facebook wall - then they're taken to another website to "claim their gift voucher" where popup surveys request sensitive information.
From Kroger 's official Facebook page:
"Attention Kroger Customers: There is currently an unauthorized "$250 Kroger gift card giveaway" circulating on Facebook. This giveaway is not affiliated with or supported by the Kroger Co. We recommend not engaging with the site or providing personal information. Our team is actively working to address the issue."
From Publix's official Facebook page:
"Please be aware of an unauthorized "$250 Publix gift card giveaway" being shared online. This offer is not affiliated with Publix. We recommend not participating in the promotion or providing your personal information. Thank you."
