Nashville (WVLT) His product forced the infamous “Popcorn” Sutton to run from the law. Now it's providing jobs for people in Cocke County.
Popcorn Sutton Distilling LLC announced Wednesday they'll build a 46,000 square foot facility where third-generation moonshiner Marvin “Popcorn” Sutton began manufacturing and distilling his famous white whiskey.
Distillery owners said bringing the brand back to Cocke County was one of Sutton's dreams.
"When Popcorn and I talked about forming the company, it was always our vision to come back to Cocke County," Popcorn Sutton Distilling LLC Founder Jamey Grosser said.
The facility will create 36 jobs over the next few years.
“We appreciate the confidence shown in our business climate and in our workforce,” Cocke County Partnership President Donald Hurst said. “This is a very unique opportunity for a company to have an impact locally in manufacturing, tourism, and agriculture all at the same time.”
The new facility will be on Highway 25 in Newport. Anyone interested in applying can contact Popcorn Sutton Distilling, or the Tennessee Career Centers in either Sevierville or Talbott.
