Crimetracker: High speed chase starts in Ky. and ends in North Knox County

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A high speed chase through four counties started in Kentucky and ended in Knox County.

Derek T. Smith is now in jail on a slew of charges.

The Union County Sheriff's Office says Smith was trying to get away from the law by driving more than 130 miles per hour early Friday morning.

Deputies eventually stopped him in the Halls area with spike strips, but he wasn't done running.

Deputies say Smith jumped out of his car and ran into a deputy's car, knocking off the side mirror.

Some of his many charges include DUI second offense, reckless endangerment, driving an excess of 130 mph, evading police, driving with a revoked license, driving with an expired registration, vandalizing county property and driving over the center line.
