Man cited for 114-acre brush fire in Jefferson County

NEW MARKET, Tenn. (WVLT) -- New Market Fire Captain Sammy Solomon says the person who started the fire has been cited for reckless burning.

New Market fire officials say they were able to put the fire out before 9:30 Saturday night but the fire reignited.

The majority of the fire is extinguished crews will stay on scene to fight hot spots.

Several fire agencies assisted including Knoxville Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to save all the homes near the blaze.

Crews in Jefferson County are fighting a 114-acre brush fire.

Dispatch says the controlled burn got out of hand around 2:00 PM near Old Dandridge Pike in New Market.

Several fire crews from around the surrounding county were called in to help.

Officials at the scene say no homes were in danger.

The blaze is expected to be put out by 10:00 PM.
