KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- TDOT construction crews will start two projects Monday at 7 P.M., and drivers should expect delays and use extreme caution.
Kristin Qualls, engineer for TDOT says the project is slated to be finished in mid August.
"There are 8 bridges that are scheduled for repairs as part of our paving project there on 640."
A few of them begin Monday night .
The bridges from I-640 west to I-40 west -- along with the east bound bridge will be down to one lane.
Then, on Tuesday night, the I-275 bridges.
"We will do 24/7 work on those bridges until we get those repairs done," says Qualls.
Some area businesses are afraid all this hassle will keep customers away.
Others like Wings Xpress are confident their regulars will still come in.
"I know that it does need to be done," says Holly Lemons, a bartender at the restaurant, "the road does need work, but it will probably just be a headache for most drivers coming this way."
She says most of their customers come from around the area.
TDOT will also being doing some resurfacing along with bridge repairs.
"We've got to be able to have temperatures to do resurfacing," says Qualls, "so, when you include bridge repair and you're going to be doing lane closures anyway, that's why they get lumped into this time of the year."
The I-640 eastbound and I-640 westbound bridges over I-275 will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes.
Crews will also begin bridge repairs on the ramp from I-640 westbound to I-40 westbound and the ramp from I-40 eastbound to I-640 eastbound. These ramps will be reduced from two lanes to one lane.
