Blount County man killed at DUI checkpoint in Florida

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Police say an armed Louisville man was shot and killed at DUI checkpoint in Lake City, Florida on Friday around 11:50 PM.

As officers were making contact with 60-year-old Jimmy Eugene Barker, they say he pointed a gun out the window at them.

An officer was able to grab the gun. As he struggled with Barker, he pulled out his duty firearm and pulled the trigger.

Barker was pronounced dead the scene.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
