KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Knox County school security officer faces gun and driving under the influence charges after an arrest over the weekend.
KCS officials say Dustin Copeland, 25, of Lenoir City, is a school security officer at Sterchi Elementary School.
Around 4:00 a.m. Saturday, some called 911 to report that they witnessed a man point a gun at another person around Jackson Ave. and Patton Street.
The witness followed the suspect while calling 911. Officers stopped the car, driven by Copeland, on the ramp to Mall Road from I-640 after spotting his car cross over the center line.
Officers say he had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and smelled of alcohol. A loaded Glock handgun was also discovered inside the car.
KPD says Copeland performed poorly on the field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI, Possession of a Handgun while Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Roadway Lane Violation.
