Rescue crews call off search at South Knoxville quarry

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Officials spent a few hours Sunday searching for a man seen diving head first into a quarry near Fort Dickerson Park around 5 PM.

The search was called off around 7:30 PM when fire officials say no one was found.

"After two hours, it's pretty much going to be a recovery," says Knoxville Fire Department Captain D.J. Corcoran.

A witness told Local 8 News the man was wearing blue jeans a white shirt.

Officials say it's possible the witness may have been mistaken, and it could have been a rock.

The quarry is estimated to be 280 feet deep.
