2 injured in East Knoxville neighborhood shooting | UPDATE

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two people were shot around 9 PM in the 2100 block of Brooks Avenue.

Police say 37-year-old Gary Tate was hit in the arm and chest, while 58-year-old Julia Rice has a graze wound to her stomach.

Witnesses tell Local 8 News the victims liked to sit on their front porch and didn't bother anyone.

"I talk to these people everyday. I got a good friendship with them. When I heard, I had to get down here as fast as I can just to make sure everything was alright," says Rick Sawyer.

Tate and Rice were taken to U.T. Medical Center. They are both are expected to survive.
