Candy-coated insects part of Kentucky Big Bugs display

OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) -- A museum in Owensboro is selling insect candy to go with the big bugs at the Western Kentucky Botanical Gardens.

At a Picnicking with the Bugs event on Sunday, the Owensboro Museum of Science and History provided treats at the gardens like chocolate bites that included roasted and ground crickets. There were also clear suckers with insects and wraps that included roasted and diced mealworms.

The event is associated with the Big Bugs display that opened earlier this month. The exhibit features giant wooden sculptures of insects, up to 15 feet tall and weighing up to 1,200 pounds.

Two dozen or so people showed up to sample the buggy dishes.

Four-year-old Ian Hart implored his mother not to "eat it all." She told the (Owensboro) Messenger-Inquirer that her son didn't know what was in the Crispy Chocolate Cricket Parfait.
