UPDATE 8/11/08 5:48 p.m.: LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The suspect in the Monday-afternoon standoff in Lenoir City is over, and the suspect is dead, according to our radio partner WIVK/ WNOX.
LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Police in Lenoir City are dealing with an apparent standoff on Gayle Ave., after an officer responded to a call around 1:35 p.m. Monday.
Our radio partner WIVK/ WNOX reports that an officer was following up on a Saturday incident between the man and an acquaintance, but the nature of that incident has not been released.
WIVK/ WNOX reports that an officer suffered minor injuries during an attempt to create some sort of diversion. The radio station says the injury is a laceration, and not a gunshot wound.
The Knoxville News-Sentinel reports that the Blount County SWAT team has been called in to assist authorities in Lenoir City. Lenoir City is in Loudon County.
