UNDATED (AP) -- Former University of Tennessee quarterback Heath Shuler was re-elected Tuesday to Congress in North Carolina.
Shuler, a Heisman Trophy runner-up who played quarterback for the Washington Redskins and New Orleans Saints, won in his first bid for re-election to Congress.
Shuler, a Democrat, defeated Carl Mumpower, who had irritated local Republican officials by saying he would support efforts to impeach President Bush.
Shuler's district is in the mountains of western North Carolina.
