Tennessee Republicans seize control of Senate, House

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee Democrats have conceded that they have lost their majority in the state House.

Unofficial returns show the GOP picking up four seats in Tuesday's election. Democrats had held a 53-46 majority.

Democratic House spokesman Addison Pate said, "We believe that we will be down one seat, a 50-49 split."

Republicans won three open seats previously held by Democrats in District 40, District 71 and District 48.

In District 2, Republican Tony Shipley beat incumbent Democrat Nathan Vaughn.
