Memphis parents charged in death of 8-month-old

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities say an 8-month-old Memphis girl died from a blow to the head and her parents are charged with aggravated child abuse.

Police say Trenity Lawrence was found unresponsive when officers were called to her family's residence Friday. She was taken to Methodist South Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The girl's parents, 28-year-old Trevelyn Lawrence and 21-year-old Candace Faulkner, deny harming the child but told police they had been in a fight with each other shortly before noticing she was unconscious.

Police say Lawrence had been stabbed with screwdriver and Faulkner had been hit a lamp during the fight.

Stories like this make me sick. We lost our baby girl in June. She was six months old, she became entrapped while taking a nap in our bed. All I could think was that it wasn't fair because there are so many children living in domestic violence everyday. I couldn't understand why God chose to take our little girl. I know that this baby is in a better place and situation. She is safe wrapped in Jesus' loving care. She will no longer have to hear and watch her parents fight. Unfortunately many children have to put up with such nonsense their whole childhoods. God Bless all these little children especially during the holiday season. One of the only things that comforts me about my daughters untimely death is something I found in scripture, we also had in engraved on her tombstone, "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, forbid them not, to come unto me, for the Kingdom of Heaven is such as these." Matthew 19:14
