3 'street preachers' arrested in East Tennessee

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Three men who call themselves street preachers found themselves in trouble with the law in Maryville over the weekend.

Maryville Police say Jeremy Burt, 21, Jay Bryant, 28, and Wallace Scott Langford, 49, all of Dover, Tenn., were holding religious signs and yelling at passing cars Saturday in the median at West Broadway and West Lamar Alexander Parkway.

Police arrested and charged Burt and Bryant with disorderly conduct.

All three were cited for demonstrating without a permit.

Burt and Bryant are due in court next week.

There are several Supreme Court Cases that protect street preachers. Just because someone does not like street preachers or the message does not negate the preachers first amendment rights and backed by several Supreme Court cases.

I know a real preacher who is old and afflicted now, and is programming a major website for those of you who wish to learn how to preach in the power of the Spirit. Go to Lifeishid.com to learn more about it. He was out there in the public from 1981 for about twenty years kind of like a John the Baptist preaching in English and Spanish. Check it out!

It sure is funny that all of you people like to mouth off about what they are doing but what are you doing but running your mouth. You probably won't even so much as to open your mouth to speak one word for Jesus. Just go show them what to do if you say you know how to do it. Yea, that is what I thought leave it up to some one else. Because you just like to run that mouth and not put your what you say is the right way to action.

Facts ? What are they preaching ? Its not the word, if you know so much please enlighten us. And I am seconds from forming anti-street preachers protesters ! The dummy I confronted could not say anything short of "they" killed Jesus ! I asked him when did they kill him, he said 2000 years ago....I asked him if he would not agree the world has changed since yesterday, let alone 2000 years ago ? He looked like a stupid brian washed wannabe...If your a preacher, find a church. Your going to yell into the wrong ear, and with all this "court" stuff sounds like what you want...Tell me when and where.

Volunteer TV and WBIR have butchered what really occurred for a quick news plug. The real story is out there. There will be another chance to get it right when this mess goes to court. Hopefully they will cover it better, or not at all.

I don't think that everyone is assuming that they ARE preaching The Word... Well i guess, in a sense. But, mainly I think we're just stating things, generally about "street preachers". I wish I did know more about these 2. We had a couple of men, who called themselves "street preachers", @ our church and they should NOT have been out there, representing Jesus or our Church. They were going about it in THE ABSOLUTE WORST WAY & only turning people against Jesus. :( Luckily, they have moved on to a different church, but they are still mis-representing Jesus (which is certainly much worse than giving our church a bad name). I hope they both get saved and can preach God's Word. Oh, i see that someone has posted info on these two men... Thank you "JUST FACTS" - Wow, yeah... from what you say, they do seem to have the wrong way to go about it. We should go to the lost, with love & compassion & concern for their soul. Not by appearing like raging brutes. :( I hope they clean up their acts.

These people are not preaching the word, They are telling us we are going to hell and are sinners. During the Foothills Fall Festival we had one of these scumbags come down the hill wearing camo pants and a ratty t-shirt with a big black bible in one hand, and the other near his mouth directing what he was yelling. First what he was wearing, we are in the 20th century and yelling or not it gets a second look. Anyway he goes though a stage yelling everyone was going to hell and were sinners, folks there were 4 year old kids on that stage ! He scared everyone, bet he is still glad one of those kids was not mine !!! Anyway, I confronted him, and pointed out what he did. He knew he was wrong and admitted it. I pointed out to him his idea was to "save" and spread the word was back firing because everyone who had contact with him wanted to rip him apart. There is a right way and a wrong one. THIS IS THE WRONGNext he wanted me to take action, that's why he recorded everything

Very much agreed, my Brother in Roane County. I know that I do not do enough witnessing myself and i am ashamed of it and pray every day for God to use me. I think most Christians are way too 'distracted' and sucked into the things of this world... which is, of course, a snare of the devil to keep souls from getting saved. but it is a real shame... especially as Jesus' 2nd Coming is 'at hand'.

Everyone is assuming these guys are Christian preachers, but the report does not state what kind of preachers they are. It may be a good thing these guys are off the street. Were they really preaching the Bible and the Gospel or something else?
