Athens, McMinn County (WVLT) - A massive manhunt for two East Tennessee fugitives, who deputies say escaped from the McMinn County Jail Friday is over.
Sheriff Steve Frisbie tells WVLT, 27-year-old Christopher Johnson turned himself in around 8:30 this evening in the Calhouns Community.
Then about 10:00 p.m., 26-year old Clifford "Rocky" Howard turned himself in, in the Short Creek Community.
Right now, they aren't releasing many details about the capture but say the two are in route back to the jail.
The sheriff says the two escaped Friday morning after a control unit short circuited requiring the jailer to use keys.
He says one inmate overpowered him, used the keys to get the other man out, then the two got out by scaling the roof.
Sheriff Frisbie says the men then stole a Ford Taurus from a near-by home.
"The correctional officer's radio, jail keys and flash light were laying right in here. They has pulled this chain link fence away from the wall here," says Captain Tim Carver, Jail Administrator
Both men have been charged with escape, and Rocky Howard has also been charged with assault of an officer.
