LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT: A Flash Flood Watch is in effect Saturday morning through Sunday morning at 8AM for the Valley, Smokies, and NE TN, including Knoxville. Heavy rainfall at times on Saturday, plus run-off from the mountains, can lead to flooding issues. TADD - turn around, don't drown. Assume high water on a road is not passable.
The possibilty of flooding remains on Sunday as an additional band of rain enters East Tennessee.
Officials say they conducted several water rescues, Saturday after people drove through flooded streets.
"They don't realize the danger involved in what little bit of water it takes to sweep a car off the roadway into a ditch or into moving water," said Steve Fowler from the Knoxville Fire Department.
Some of the biggest problems are people driving through water that is too deep and getting stuck or driving through deep water and having their car float away.
Police say just stay off the roads and do not drive through water if you can't see the road.
