Knoxville (WVLT) - Police in Knoxville are asking for your help in catching the person who hit and killed a University of Tennessee student this weekend.
Knoxville police tell us they're following several leads right now, but the driver is still on the loose.
The SUV hit 20-year-old Morgan McCarty of Jackson Tennessee about 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning as she was crossing the street at 17th and Highland.
She suffered major head trauma and later died at UT Medical Center.
A witness says he thought the driver hit a trash can until he saw Morgan's body and then called 911.
Morgan was a junior at UT, majoring in marketing.
She was from West Tennessee and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Kappa's off-campus advisor describes Morgan as a lively girl who lived life to the fullest, and asks you keep Morgan's parents and brother in your thoughts and prayers.
Police are looking for a white man, driving a white Chevy Blazer with a damaged headlight.
There may be more damage on the front of the vehicle.
If you have any information, call the KPD hotline at 215-7212.
We'll be following this all day and will bring you the latest as it becomes available.
