Government Partially Lifts Ban on Carryon Liquids and Gels

Arlington, VA (AP) - The rules are changing again, on what you can and can't bring onto planes.

The government says liquid explosives remain "an ongoing part of the terrorists' playbook," but a total ban on carryon liquids is no longer necessary.

Transportation security officials say three ounces of toiletries and medications can now be carried through security, as long as they all fit into a sealed one-quart zip-top plastic bag.

Passengers will also be allowed to take aboard beverages and duty-free items as long as they're bought in stores past the security checkpoint.

The new rules ease what TSA official Michael Jackson calls the "somewhat blunt measures" imposed after an airborne terror plot was uncovered in Britain last month.
