Knoxville (WVLT) - Starting Friday evening, you could run into a few slowdowns on the interstate.
This is all part of the SmartFix40 plan, a plan to help improve traffic flow on Interstate 40.
The project covers the area between Interstate 275 and Cherry Street and Hall of Fame Drive.
More work on that project happening this weekend, here's a look at what's going on.
It's happening between James White Parkway and Broadway on I-40, that's exit 388 and 389.
The reason, construction crews are building a new ramp to Hall of Fame Drive.
Beginning at 9:00 p.m. Friday until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, I-40 eastbound will be reduced to one lane.
The 389 exit ramp to Broadway will also be closed.
If you need to get to Broadway from the interstate, you can take exit 390, that's Cherry Street, to Cecil Avenue.
When this entire SmartFix40 is finished, I-40 will have an additional lane in each direction.
Hall of Fame Drive will be a new four-lane street and auxiliary lanes will be added between I-275 and James White Parkway between Broadway and Cherry Street.
A lot of changes and a lot of construction, TDOT crews need you to have a lot of patience when you're driving through these construction areas, especially over the weekend.
