Maryville, Blount County (WVLT) - Preparations for the seventh annual Foothills Fall Festival are well underway in Maryville with yet another lineup of stars.

WVLT Volunteer TV's Blount County Bureau Chief Stephen McLamb brings you a preview of the event and what it takes to bring it to you.

Fall has finally arrived and preparations are well underway for this year's Foothills Fall Festival.

"We have the most incredible entertainment line up that I can imagine for the price that we charge," says Jane Groff, Event Coordinator.

Huge acts are expected this year with country sensation Randy Travis as well as Clay Walker. What started out as a one day event is now three and has grown to see more and more people show up on the lawn in front of the downtown Maryville stage.

"The first year you could see grass. You can't see grass any longer," says Mike Owens, Production Coordinator.

What takes three days now takes nearly a year to plan. Police are now preparing for the onslaught of traffic to come this weekend.

"It takes several hundred man hours, obviously, and we do plan for the overtime. We're using all of our officers. We have a good reserve police officer force and do utilize them," says Sgt. Chris Tuck, festival police representative.

Public works is spending most of their time putting up banners and getting ready for the estimated 11 tons of trash to pick up.

"We've got places we take it over here to the side to get it out of the way and then we've got a vehicle we bring in and haul it over to our garbage truck," says Darrel Pharris, Public Works Crew Leader.

But the event just wouldn't look good if it were not for it's decorations. The event's decorator spends a week putting on the fall touches which includes nearly 800 pumpkins from a local grower.

"After he sells out of them he just turns us into the patch and we get what's left," says Phyllis Long, Decorations Coordinator.

The Foothills Fall Festival runs from Friday through Sunday in Downtown Maryville.
