Oak Ridge, Anderson County (WVLT) - Over a half a million children are transported to and from school each day in Tennessee.
And the Tennessee Highway Patrol Pupil Transportation Division is doing all they can to insure the safety of these children.
Every bus across the state of Tennessee is inspected annually.
Interior gauges and emergency warning exit devices are checked to make sure they are operating properly.
Exterior lights, horns and the undercarriage of each bus are also inspected.
Statistics show these buses are the safest passenger vehicle on the road and THP works everyday to be sure that statistic continues to increase.
"Our main concern is, of course, the safety of the children. We want to make sure everything is operational and up to the minimum standards on these vehicles," says Debbie Paford, from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
THP says it's also important for every other driver on the road to be responsible in school zones to insure the safety of children.
