Oak Ridge, Anderson County (AP) -- Nuclear cleanup workers apparently spent their time sleeping, playing cards and smoking marijuana while waiting to remove tons of highly radioactive salts stored at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
One worker was fired on the spot when an unspecified amount of marijuana was found in the worker's car last week.
Spokesmen for contractor Bechtel Jacobs said another worker refused to take a drug test and quit.
Bechtel Jacobs called in local police after company officials visited a break trailer outside the cleanup site at the shuttered experimental molten salt reactor and found workers sleeping on the job, watching television and playing cards.
Authorities said they found evidence indicating marijuana was smoked in the trailer although no drugs were found inside.
