It's the first of its kind in our area, and Tuesday, East Tennessee officials gathered to open a new facility to the public.
The effort to build a Veteran's Nursing Home in East Tennessee began back in 2002, when Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale and local veterans started talking.
In 2004, the state told Knox County they would house the new facility.
Officials broke ground at the site in 2005.
Many veterans say they are very happy a state veteran's home is opening in our area, and they don't have to drive to Johnson City or Nashville for this service.
The Home will begin admitting patients to the Veteran's Nursing Home in December.
