A Knoxville man, with criminal convictions dating back to 1984, is now in jail, charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
40-year-old Robert Winton was wanted on eleven warrants, including fleeing from police just last week, when officers spotted him on Sunday in North Knoxville.
Police say Winton tried to run them over, forcing them to shoot him in the hand.
When he got out of the hospital yesterday, he went straight to jail.
The two officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave until the investigation is complete, which is department policy.
