Knoxville (WVLT) - We've all become almost use-to driving through construction here on I-40 around the Papermill Exit.
This week will be no different, but as Volunteer TV's Whitney Daniel tells us, there's relief and it's already making a difference.
This week we can focus on the good news: progress.
There are four lanes open in each directions, and in some areas five.
But we do need to look out for those delays as crews tie up the loose ends:
Starting today through Thursday, you need to be alert for lane closures in each direction.
That could happen anytime during the day between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. as well as overnight from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
You will also see more construction activity and possible lane closures on Kingston Pike between Buckingham Drive and Winston Road.
It's all part of the "I-40/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project".
When it's all said and done the interstate will have wider lanes, more ramps and frontage roads and less confusion for drivers!
But it's not finished just yet.
"Everytime you have the lane opening and traffic's moving very freely through, then you have to remember there's going to be more lane closures coming up. You have to be very patient. It's still an active construction zone, there are a lot of workers in the area, so you have to be aware of those," says TDOT spokesman Travis Brickey.
You have to remember that just because these lanes are open today, doesn't mean they'll be tomorrow or the next day.
Everything is supposed to be finished up by the end of December, so keep those fingers crossed!
