Nashville (AP) -- Governor Bredesen won a second term in office today by defeating little-known Republican challenger Jim Bryson.
Bredesen's win was based on a statistical analysis of the vote from voter interviews conducted for the Associated Press by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.
Bredesen had more campaign money and led by wide margins in the polls throughout the race.
Bryson, a state senator from Franklin, got a late start in the race, and his campaign had a hard time drawing attention.
Bredesen has been popular even among some Republicans who acknowledge that he straightened out the state's finances without instituting an income tax.
