Weekend Quadruple Whammy Means Heavy Traffic

Knoxville (WVLT) - You won't run out of things to do in the Tennessee Valley this weekend.

Trouble is, it'll feel like everybody's trying to do all of them, at the same time.

Volunteer TV's Gordon Boyd gives you a heads-up on coping with a quadruple whammy of traffic!

It could be Kentucky's best shot at the Vols, in Neyland in more than a decade.

"Game traffic…To the game," says Vol fan Theresa Bragg.

"Watching the Cats, cause we're gonna win," says Melanie Matthews, a Kentucky Fan.

Throw in the fantasy of trees at the downtown convention center thru Sunday, Winterfest all over Sevier County through February, and the first Christmas sales all weekend.

"Looking at today, probably a lot of traffic. It's been hectic," says shopper Christianna Stewart.

The bright spot? You'll have plenty of room to spread out. All the work around Kingston Pike and this stretch of I-40--Done. All the lanes-- Open!

But considering the Cumberland Strip probably won't flow this smoothly again until late Sunday afternoon?

Knoxville Police Lieutenant Greg Hoskins says "just about everybody in the police department is working this weekend."

How bout putting a pro at the wheel?

Friday KAT offers shuttles to the malls from downtown every fifteen minutes from dawn til dusk, a buck twenty five each way.

Plus, game shuttles for $4.00 roundtrip from the coliseum, the ag campus and the old city.

Tickets go on sale at 9:30 a.m.

Out west, the Farragut shuttle costs ten bucks. At leaves at 9:30, ten, ten thirty and 11:30.

OR "You walk, ride a bicycle," Stewart says.

But if you must drive yourself.

"Middlebrook is four lane, so don't forget about Middlebrook," Lt. Hoskins says. "It's normally quite as crowded as Kingston Pike, and the interstate."

But Charles and the misses still have aisles to go, before they sleep.

"While he's out watching the football game, I'll probably be out shopping,"

Downtown Market Square also will be a magnet through New Years Eve.

The ice skating rink opens from ten-til-ten, Friday and on Saturdays and until 5 o'clock Sundays.
