Greenback, Blount County (WVLT) - As Blount County continues to grow, folks there are finding more reasons to shop at home during the holiday season.
Volunteer TV's Blount County Bureau Chief Stephen McLamb takes you there for more on what merchants are doing to keep the green in Greenback and the rest of Blount County.
Foothills Mall has a fresh new look. Inside there's new lighting, new carpet, and tile floors imported from Italy, a new look that's getting noticed.
"A remodeled mall, beautiful store fronts, and some new stores to keep us here to keep from having to go to Knoxville," says Sandra Carter.
And there are new stores including a book store and an all woman's clothing store that's a huge hit with some local customers.
"I just got through talking to a friend in there and she goes to Chattanooga to shop at that store so she's shopping here now," Carter says.
Stores are also working hard to win over shoppers. The Finish Line has finished it's first full year in operation and sales percentages are better over last year than other Finish Line stores.... including Knoxville.
"We were number one in our district with the Thanksgiving this week," says Charles Rentz, General Manager at Finish Line.
The Foothills Mall is also seeking out variety to keep shoppers at home. With a kids play area there's also an all woman's fitness club that's moved into its new location in the mall.
"Women shop and it's ladies only so we have about 2300 ladies in our facility and we've actually averaged probably about 300 members since we've moved in this location," says Jo Ann White, Ladies Total Fitness manager.
With a lot of new things at the mall there's also something old that will never change to keep people at home.
"It's all about customer service helping everybody out as soon as they walk in," Rentz says.
Mall spokesperson Ashley Crafton says for next year they hope to have all the bench seats changed out with newer softer seating.
