Man Who Coined "Super Bowl" Dies of Prostate Cancer

Dallas, TX (AP) -- Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt has died of complications from prostate cancer at age 74. Hunt had battled cancer for several years and was admitted to a Dallas hospital the day before Thanksgiving with a partially collapsed lung. Doctors discovered that the cancer had spread, and Hunt had been under heavy sedation since last week. Hunt was a founder of the American Football League and played a huge rule in the AFL/NFL merger. He's also credited with coining the term, "super bowl." He saw his chiefs win Super Bowl 4 in 1970, two years before he became the first AFL figure inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The son of texas oilman, Hunt tried unsuccessfully to buy an NFL team in the late 1950s. He eventually persuaded several other wealthy sportsmen to form the AFL in 1960 to compete with the NFL.
