Body Armor Donated to Knox School Security

Knoxville (WVLT) - School Security Officer Russell Kocur was shot in the back on Halloween night while guarding Halls High School, and it's possible a bullet-resistant vest could have saved his life.

Now his fellow school security officers will have that life-saving opportunity.

They will be wearing protective body armor.

Knox County Schools have received $32,000 worth of body armor for all school security officers.

The vests were donated Thursday at special ceremony.

Lukus Bruner now works at Halls, filling the big shoes Officer Kocur left behind.

"I was willing to go," says Officer Bruner. "I was worried about it and a little bit afraid. But it's a great place to be."

The Protective Armor Corporation of America donated the vests in honor of officer Kocur.
