New UN Secretary-General Sworn In

United Nations (AP) -- There's a new man taking charge at the United Nations. Ban Ki-Moon has been sworn-in as the eighth Secretary-General.

The former South Korean Foreign Minister is the first Asian to lead the UN in 35 years. On New Year's Day he takes over from Kofi Annan, who served ten years.

Ban was appointed in October, and at the time, US Ambassador John Bolton praised him as "the right person to lead" the UN.

Ban will oversee an organization with more than 90,000 peacekeepers in various parts of the world, and an annual budget of $5 billion.

The career diplomat has promised to make peace with North Korea a top priority.
