Tampa, FL (WVLT) - Allegiant Air is now in its third day of providing you non-stop flights to the Tampa-St. Petersburg area.
The new service comes just in time for your trip to see the Vols in the Outback Bowl
Volunteer TV's Stephen McLamb was on the maiden flight and returns with a look at what you can see when you decide to take flight to Florida.
Allegiant Air made it's maiden trip on Wednesday and I got the lucky ticket to make the ride. It was my first trip that far south in Florida, December temperatures approached 80!
An hour and fifteen minutes went by fast and soon we were on the ground at St. Petersburg Clearwater International airport.
It's probably smaller than Knoxville's airport, so getting in and out was pretty smooth, no long delays and no getting lost!
"We have an airport that is customer friendly and convenient. You park right out front," says Noah Lagos, Director at St. Pete Airport.
I was then off for two days of adventure and I found lots to do.
The Gulf Coast has some beautiful beaches including those at Fort Desoto Park, voted best in the nation last year!
If you're looking for wildlife, you can't beat the Florida Aquarium.
The Clearwater Aquarium works to save dolphins, including Winter, he's missing his tail.
At the Lowery Park Zoo you'll even find an elephant named Ellie, with a Knoxville connection.
And if you're into nightlife, you can check out some cool guitars and gamble the night away at the Hard Rock or head to Ybor City. It's deep in Spanish-Cuban culture and has some really great food.
"So I told you...this is, you know, honestly, you haven't seen anything yet," says Sam Waez from Acropolis Café.
He's right, you haven't, but I have. My Top 5 Can't Miss Things to Do in Tampa/St Pete coming up Christmas Week!
