Shop With a Cop

(WVLT) - More than 120 children in Blount County now know what they are getting for Christmas. But, it's not a bad thing, they did their own shopping thanks to the Fraternal Order of Police.

"This is the most awesomeist day of my life," one child told Volunteer TV News.

"A huge, my little pet shop, a doll, shoes, and pajamas, and slippers that go with it," another little girl said.

More than 120 children got full reign of the Wal-Mart store in Alcoa as part of the Shop with a Cop program. The program began 17 years ago with just one child. Police officers passed a hat to raise the money back then. Now, the FOP teams up with Wal-Mart to make the day a success.

"The feeling that you get when they put their own needs away and say 'Hey, I wanna buy for my little brother, I wanna buy for my little sister. I wanna buy for my mom and dad. It's just, you can't explain the overwhelming sensation you get," said Jarrod Millsaps, a Blount County Sheriff's Deputy.

This year, so many children were involved that they had to call in for backup. They asked everybody wearing a uniform in Blount County to help out, which made 150 volunteers in all.
