(WVLT) - More than a thousand people will go from University of Tennessee student to college graduate on Sunday. The graduation ceremony for Fall 2006 is Sunday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena. Civil rights pioneer Rita Geier is the commencement speaker. Ms. Geier was a faculty member in 1968 when she filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Tennessee's higher education system. She alleged the system was still segregated. The suit resulted in the Geier Consent Decree five years ago. It provided $77 million in state funds recruiting minority students and faculty to all state higher education institutions.
