Knoxville (WVLT) - State lawmakers are getting more money for the jobs they are doing in Nashville.
Salaries increased November eighth, by $1,600.
In addition, lawmakers daily expense allowance is also going up form $150 to $153 a day for the upcoming session.
The law behind the pay raises passed two years ago.
We talked today to State Senator Tim Burchett about the raises.
"There's a lot of people that make some huge sacrifices to be down there. I don't have a wife and kids and people that depend on my income, so I'm not the norm. Most of those people are family people, and they have to take time away from their businesses and families, so it's very tough on them."
When compared to salaries for legislators in other states, Tennessee falls somewhere in the middle, but the expense allowance is one of the highest.
