Nashville (AP) -- Tennessee's unemployment rate in November increased to 5 percent from October's 4.5 percent.
This was still under the November 2005 rate of 5.5 percent.
State officials said the November figure went up because of a large number of people looking for jobs.
There were job gains in some areas. Retail showed an increase of 8,800 positions. Employment in government jobs increased by 2,200.
However, seasonal month-to-month employment in arts, entertainment and recreation jobs decreased by 1,400. Manufacturing lost 1,200 jobs.
