Most Popular Baby Names in Tennessee

Nashville (AP) -- If you have a baby girl named Madison or an infant son you named William, they might not be unique on their kindergarten roster a few years from now.

The State Health Department says those were the most popular names given to babies in 2006.

Rounding out the top ten for girls -- after Madison -- were emma, Emily, Hannah, Abigail, Olivia, Sarah, Alexis, Anna and Chloe.

In order for boys -- after William -- were Jacob, Joshua, James, Ethan, Christopher, Michael, John and a tie For Andrew and Jackson.

The complete records from 2005 show the birth rate was up 2.7% over 2004, with 81,720 babies born.

Records show nearly 60% of babies born in 2005 were to married parents.
