Knoxville (WVLT) - A deadly beginning to the holiday weekend on Tennessee interstates.
The highway patrol says at least one person has died after two vehicles caught fire, on I-75 in McMinn county.
Authorities say a pick-up truck veered into the right lane, and hit a van carrying seven people.
The truck landed on the van off the roadway and caught fire.
The pickup's driver died.
His passenger was airlifted to erlanger hospital.
Seven people have been taken to the Athens Regional Medical Center.
The highway patrol hasn't released any names or hometowns yet.
A reserve officer from the McMinn County Sheriff's Department was injured in the rescue attempt.
He was taken to a local hospital with injuries to his arm and shoulder.
