Vol Fans Down After Loss, Hopeful for 2007 Season

Knoxville (WVLT) - The Outback Bowl outcome is certainly not what big orange fans watching the game had wanted either.

Fans we spoke with say they got very little sleep last night and still woke up early to cheer the Vols on to victory, not getting the ending they hoped for!

"I'm a huge Vol fan, born in Nashville, went to school here," Amber Henry grew up in Vol country, but later moved on to another Big T... Texas.

However she never left her volunteer roots far behind.

"Our house in Texas is decorated in real orange, not burnt orange," she says.

For Henry and dozens of other fans who bleed orange, there's nothing better that starting a New Year cheering on the Vols.

The only problem.

"You can't do nothing with a fumble," yells Vol Fan Steve Coward.

The final outcome wasn't quite what they had hoped for.

"I was hoping they would have won, it would have been much better," says Steve.

No tunes of Rocky Top echoed here at Kingston Alley.

The 20-10 defeat certainly changed the "It's Great To Be A Tennessee Vol" mood everyone started the day with.

"It was a pretty good game but the offense let it go. Defense did what they could," Steve Coward had an opportunity to witness the Vols in action, but says now, "Glad I didn't spend my money for it"

Win or lose fans say they're proud of the team for making it to the Outback Bowl and won't use the loss as a predictor for next season.

"We're going to have to go with 2007 is going to be a better year for the Vols," says Amber.

Fans say they hope this loss isn't any prediction for the 2007 Vols season, which by the way kicks off September 1st against California.
