Whirlpool Sending 370 Tennessee Jobs to Oklahoma, Mexico

Cleveland, TN (AP) -- Whirlpool Corporation says it will eliminate 370 jobs at a cooking products factory in Cleveland, Tennessee. The company said Friday it will shift production to another facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a yet-to-be determined location in Mexico.

Company Spokewoman Monica Teague says the move will leave the Tennessee plant with about 2,000 employees. The Michigan-based company said in a news release it expects to most of the job cuts through attrition and by eliminating temporary positions.

The move involves production of cooking ranges for recreational vehicles built under the Magic Chef and Crosley brand names.

The company didn't announce when the work would be shifted.

The Benton Harbor-based appliance maker last year acquired Maytag Corporation, saying it would eliminate 4500 jobs by closing Maytag laundry washer and dryer plants and consolidating corporate offices.
