UT Forensic Investigators to Examine Johnson City Skeleton

Johnson City, Washington County (AP) -- A forensic team has been called in to help investigate the discovery of human remains in Washington County.

Sheriff's officials say some people looking for antique jars found the skeletal remains Sunday in the Painters Creek area.

Sheriff's Captain Bryan Horton says it appears the remains had been there for some time, on private property, at least 200 yards from the nearest homes.

Horton says officers couldn't determine the age or sex of the person, but said the remains don't appear to be those of a child.

The area is being treated as a possible crime scene and the department planned to guard it overnight.

A team from the University of Tennessee Forensic Anthropology Department is scheduled to arrive Monday morning.
