Bredesen Names New Commissioners For Safety, Revenue, Health

Nashville (AP) -- Governor Bredesen named a new Safety Commissioner and filled two other vacancies in his cabinet Monday.

David Mitchell, a retired FBI agent who has been Homeland Security Director since 2005, was named to lead the Safety Department. He takes over there from Gerald Nicely, who was interim commissioner.

Bredesen also promoted Reagan Farr to lead the Revenue Department and Susan Cooper to lead the Health Department.

Farr has been number two at the Revenue Department, which collects state taxes, and replaces Loren Chumley.

Cooper has been running the safety net program established at the Health Department after the TennCare health program was cut back.

Bredesen, a Democrat, carried every county in the state when he was re-elected in November. He will be inaugurated for his second term January 20th.
