Knoxville (WVLT) - Police have three men and a female in custody, hoping they can provide the answers they need to solve a double homicide in Knoxville.
Authorities name these two men, Lemaricus Davidson and Letalvis Cobbins as people of interest. They've now been caught, and the Knox County Sheriff's Department says an unnamed female is also in custody being questioned.
Volunteer TV's Whitney Daniel has been following this case from the beginning and bring us up to date on the entire situation.
U.S. Marshals say Channon Christian was raped numerous times leading up to her death. Federal Marshals from the Western District of Kentucky say this whole thing started as a carjacking and ended up as rape and murder. However, it's important to note that the men taken into custody are still persons of interest. They are not being considered suspects at this time.
Police have three men in custody. 25-year-old LeMaricus Davidson, his brother, 24-year-old Letalvis Cobbins, and another person of interest, George Thomas, along with an unnamed woman.
"These two gentlemen came out, surrendered, there was no resistance whatsoever," U.S. Marshal Rich Knighten said.
Thomas and Cobbins were found in this home in Lebanon Kentucky just after noon today.
"They said come out with your hands up behind your head and when we saw them, the officer saw us and motioned for us to go back inside the house," neighbor Larry Violette said.
Cobbins is being held on possession of firearms by a felon. He's supposed to appear in federal court Friday in Louisville. Thomas is being held for questioning in Lebanon.
Just hours later at 1800 Reynolds Street in the Mechanicsville area of Knoxville, authorities found Davidson.
"He did not resist, so we were able to get him without a lot of problems," Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen said.
Davidson has an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in Knox County. His criminal history also dates back to 2000 in Madison County with carjacking and aggravated robbery charges. He spend time in jail for those charges and got out in August of 2005.
Davidson was renting this home on Chipman Street. That's where police found Channon Christian's body Tuesday. Her boyfriend, Christoper Newsom's, body was found just blocks away on Sunday. Local police are tight-lipped about what happened but the U.S. Marshal's office in Western Kentucky tells us this is a brutal, brutal murder.
"Before they killed her they reportedly raped her numerous times and then killed her and dumped her in a garbage can from what I understand," Knighten said.
Again the men arrested today are not being called suspects, they are simply people of interest, but even with three people in federal custody, the investigation is still far from over.
"We're still analyzing evidence, still conducting interviews," Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said.
Still a lot of unanswered questions for investigators. Meanwhile, local authorities are considering carjacking, kidnapping, rape and of course murder charges for whoever is responsible.
