Knoxville (WVLT) - A man is facing assault and other charges after Police say he apparently tried to set fire to some gas pumps, then assaulted a convenience store clerk. Witnesses describe seeing the man between the Kenjo Market and the Family Inn on Rutledge Pike around 7:00 Friday night. He was not wearing a shirt and was covered in blood. Police say bystanders stopped him from setting Kenjo Market's pumps on fire and later subdued him when he tried to assault a store clerk. The man was apparently in a fight at the Family Inn prior to the incident at Kenjo Market. Police say he was covered in blood, because he had jumped through a glass window. He was taken to UT Medical Center for treatment. Police charged him with assault, resisting arrest and public intoxication. They have not yet released his name.
