(WVLT) - Today is Martin Luther King Junior Day and there are remembrances across the country.
This is the first holiday since the death of King's widow, Coretta Scott King, who carried on her husband's mantle after he was shot to death in 1968.
Events are planned across East Tennessee and across the country.

10:00am - MLK Celebration, AMSE, Oak Ridge
10:30am - MLK Day Parade, Knoxville. Begins at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on MLK Avenue.
10:30am - MLK March, Sevierville, Sevier County. Begins at the Sevier County Courthouse on Court Avenue.
11:00am - MLK Celebration, Dandridge, Jefferson County - Bethel Presbyterian Church, 130 W. Meeting Street.
11:00am - MLK Speaker, Carolyn Brown University Center Auditorium. Dr. Ian Smith will talk about realizing personal dreams and health issues, particularly those facing the African American community.
6:00pm - Knoxville Symphony Orchestra presents a Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert at Knoxville College.

Garbage collectors will run their normal schedule today and Knoxville's recycling center will remain open.
