Greeneville, Tenn. (AP) -- A man who barricaded himself in a bedroom with a 17-year-old girl shot and killed her before turning the gun on himself Tuesday morning.
Greene County Sheriff Steve Burns told the Greeneville Sun that 29-year-old Jason Lynn McCamey broke into the home of Katie Nicole Key at about 10:00 p.m. Monday night by firing a shotgun blast through a sliding glass door.
The intruder took Key hostage and barricaded himself in a second-floor bedroom.
It was not immediately clear if the girl was alone in the house at the time.
Officers attempted to negotiate with McCamey all night, but heard shots just before 2:00 a.m.
Burns did not explain the relationship between the two, other than to call them acquaintances. McCamey is from Morristown. Key was a senior at West Greene High School.
A Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent is assisting with the investigation.
